Vacation Time

I have a few people on my mind …

… the friends I won’t be seeing this Thanksgiving. Rather than visit family or host our usual “expatriate Thanksgiving” for our friends, Suzan and I will escape for a weekend of our own.

The quiet will be nice, but I do miss hosting that gathering … not the cleanup or 12 hours doing turkey prep, but the friends and the conversation and the knowledge that these days I am thankful for people more than I am for things.

Seeing these people doesn’t need a holiday. I try to make time for them all year, but it’s never as much as I want to. And there’s a few people I don’t see as much as I want due to distance or life or the fact we’ve grown apart. I can fix some of that when I get home.
