Through A New Set of Eyes
Suzan is seeing Asia for the first time, so I need to make sure this isn’t just another trip to Taipei.
We landed in Taipei about 6:20am, fairly well rested thanks to business class seats that recline all the way back (think about crossing the Pacific in Archie Bunker’s recliner with a built-in TV and food delivery service). We rode in the top-deck of the Mayalsian Air 747-400, the two bulkhead seats right behind the pilot. The only disadvantage to the choice seating was a lack of overhead storage, which didn’t matter much since we slept through most of the flight. The computer, books & emergency clothing stash rode in a cargo compartment as we snoozed & occasionally ate.
Even through the morning mist, Suzan took in the differences between Taiwan and the US very quickly. The buildings and ads are the obvious differences, but my biologist wife immeadiately started looking at plants & topography … plants she had never seen before, mountains and rock formations that just don’t exist in rural Georgia.
We’re showered & changed now, ready to take in a short day of wandering with one of my co-workers. we have no real tourist plans, no expectations to stay out late … just a chance for me to see one of my regular business destinations through a new set of eyes.
