Order Now, Supplies Are Limited!
You would think a company could make enough bricks to over one side of a house in three months … really, it seems completely reasonable …
So imagine my surprise when my builder called on Monday to tell me that his supplier doesn’t have the bricks we need. Despite ordering the brick in December, the supplier waited until the day before delivery to tell the builder that it would be at least sixty days before the bricks would be in.
Sixty days.
Two months.
Correction … at least two months.
Right.
So we’re shopping for a new brick color (sigh). Can it get any better … oh yes, yes it can.
File this under “customer service” … the cabinet supplier my builder uses is only open Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 3:00pm (showroom by appointment only). So we have a 7:00am appointment to pick out the cabinet style. Yeah, good plan … get us sleepy and disoriented before picking large pieces of wood that will be somewhat-permanently attached to my wall, then covered with a giant slab of manufactured stone product so it takes crowbars and deliberate application of Newton’s Laws to replace them.
Sorry, I’m not a morning person … since my mom reads this website, I expect a snarky comment on the topic soon.
Anyway, these are really minor setbacks in the grand scheme. Everything is going well, I just think these two little setbacks are quite annoying (the brick thing is really annoying, since we had the color picked out before Christmas).
Quick, I need to find a scrap of wood to knock on for good luck … does particle board count?

If you find orange brick, you will never lose your house.
And Christopher Lowe will love you for it.
The obvious solution, of course, is to stay up all night.
As I recall, my biggest fear when you went to NCSSM was that you would never make your first class. I believe that we shopped for some considerable time before finding a really LOUD alarm clock. ??Does the front have to be brick, what about using siding like on the rest of the house-oops, I know- the window trim is already set up for the thickness of brick.
Well Mom, I am using vinyl siding on the other 3 sides, but I really want a brick front on the house. I think it’s better to go ahead and pick another brick color than change siding all together.
Glad to know that I wasn’t the only one with parents hunting the world’s loudest alarm clock for when I went to ASMS.
Ah, we found our new brick today! I’ll post pics later, but it’s pretty close to the original color we wanted. The folks at the masonry supply company were very helpful.
