Sorry for the recent slacker attitude towards the blog, but I’ve been busy.
Friday was supposed to be my day to get caught up … it turned into a semi-wasted day plagued by oversleeping and slow Home Depot service/ I am happy to report that {{link http://accountantsone.com/default.asp?selection=home&sub=swampfete&resource=new Friday night’s Tech Corps GA fundraiser}} went very well.
Saturday was mostly housework (not as much as planned due to being lazy). Suzan and I cleaned the horse stall at the barn, getting ready to bring one of the horses back home. A large part of the evening was spent chasing said horse at the boarding stable, trying to bring her in for the night (we don’t have the heart to tell Dixie that her “boyfriend” is a gelding). We also managed a trip to a horse show in Conyers and a stop by Lowe’s for some roofing materials (stupid barn roof panels, I’ll fix them later).
Sunday was also spent working around the farm. Suzan and I moved 75 bags of crushed stone into a horse stall, creating a raised floor that is less prone to flood. Suzan’s horse Dixie has been moved back to the farm. The cats were unimpressed, the baby goats were curious (“How did that goat get sooooooo big?”). The rest of the evening was spent loosing bar trivia with friends. I knew that Radio Shask created the first laptop and that the Sumerians had the first form of written language … I could not put four countries in order based on per-capita beer consumption (if anybody asks, the Czech Republic is #1).
Suzan has Monday off (government employees get Confederate Memorial Day as a holiday, go figure). I will be sorting out some weird reorganization that happened on Friday (I take a day off, I get a new boss). I don;t think it will be bad, I just wonder how my old boss is handling it.
I can’t wrap my head around it… Confederate Memorial Day… I swear I’ve NEVER heard of it and I’ve lived in the South all my life.
So, if it’s Confederate Memorial Day in the South is it Union Memorial Day in the North?
I’d never heard of the holiday either until my boss said she couldn’t get the tags for her new car because the license department was closed for it. Sheesh.
Even worse (or better in some Southerner’s eyes) is that Martin Luther King’s Birthday coincides with Jefferson Davis’s birthday. So I’ve heard quite a few people claim that they aren’t realy celebrating King’s birthday when they take the day off from work.
